Football Collects Eight All-Conference Awards
The Fitchburg State football team named eight members to the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference Team as announced by the league office on Wednesday morning.
Barksdale, Feliz, Seaforth and Torres named to MASCAC All-Conference first team
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team named eight members to the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference Team as announced by the league office on Wednesday morning.
Senior Elizear Torres, classmate Talib Barksdale and juniors Taron Seaforth and Luis Feliz were named to the MASCAC All-Conference team, claiming first team honors, while seniors Brendan Coan and Phillip Saint-Juste as well as sophomore Garrett Dellechiaie all garnered second team accolades.
Junior defensive lineman James Veradt was named to the inaugural MASCAC football sportsmanship team with each squad represented by a student-athlete that has embodied good sportsmanship on and off the field.
This season, Barksdale and Feliz anchored Fitchburg State all season, combining for 177 tackles, two interceptions and 25.5 tackles for a loss (TFL's). Barksdale led all Falcons with 92 stops, two picks and four passes defended, while Feliz finished a close second with 85 stops, 5.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles.
Torres and Seaforth were also solid this season in the defensive backfield as Torres finished fourth on the squad with 43 stops, two picks and one fumble forced, while Seaforth posted 35 tackles (30 solo, five assisted) with a pair of interceptions and four passes defended.
Offensively, Dellechiaie witnessed a stellar sophomore season, breaking the program's career TD passes mark with 51 career touchdowns, a record that was previously held by Jim Miller (45) in 2008. The second-year Falcon finished with 2831 yards passing on 218-of-357 throwing (61.1%) and 26 TD passes, while also adding 189 yards rushing on 76 carries.
Saint-Juste capped his senior campaign, ranking first on the team with 65 catches for 783 yards and a team-leading nine TD's, while in the process set a new Fitchburg State career touchdown receptions mark of 19. Coan earns his second straight honor after a strong season at the left tackle. He helped paced the Falcons to over 418 yards per game with ten TD's rushing and 26 scores passing.
The Fitchburg State football team recently concluded its 2014 season with an overall record of 6-4 and a 4-4 clip in the MASCAC.
