How It Happened
Plymouth State opened the scoring late in the first half as junior forward Haley Wakefield (South Paris, Maine/Oxfords Hills) redirected a pass off the stick of sophomore midfielder Maddie Kabasakalian (Kent, Conn./The Kent School) inside the near post for her second goal on the season..
Fitchburg State knotted the score (1-1) just five minutes into the second stanza when senior forward Casey Noonan (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) buried a shot into the back the net for her first tally of the 2017 campaign before the Panthers broke the 1-1 stalemate at the 53:04 mark as Kabasakalian connected on her first tally of the year, resulting in the 2-1 final.
Inside the Numbers
The Panthers held a 20-6 margin in shots, while also holding a 17-6 edge in penalty corners.
Sophomore Kasey Mammone (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) registered seven saves for the Falcons in the setback.
This afternoon's contest was the 21st meeting between the two schools with the Falcons 4-17-0 when taking on the Panthers.
Plymouth State has now won three of the last five games against Fitchburg State.
