2018 Fitchburg State Softball Schedule Announced
Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State softball team’s 2018 season has been announced with the Falcons slated play a total of 40 games, including ten games during its annual spring trip to Clermont, Florida.

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State softball team's 2018 season has been announced with the Falcons slated play a total of 40 games, including ten games during its annual spring trip to Clermont, Florida.
The Green and Gold concluded last season with an overall record of 11-19 and a 6-8 mark with Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play, en-route to earning the fifth seed in the 2017 MASCAC Softball post-season tournament.
This season, Fitchburg State is scheduled to play seven teams who won at least 22 contests from a year ago, including four double headers.
"We definitely play a tougher non-league schedule this season." Said Fitchburg State head softball coach Merry MacDonald. "It advances the program with the core of players this season being upper classmen." MacDonald continued, "It also helps the team prepare for a very competitive conference slate this year."
"It is challenging every year, but we a have a versatile team this year to play that amount games in a short amount of time. We have to prepare the team to be mentally focused and prepared to play at time." Said MacDonald about the challenges of getting 30 games in once they return from their Florida spring trip.
The Falcons open their 2018 slate on March 11th as they take on the Hawks of Roger Williams University as well as the Endicott College Gulls as Fitchburg State opens its 2018 spring trip to Florida before playing Albright College/Lasell College (3/12), Ohio Wesleyan/Coast Guard (3/13), Keene State/Rutgers-Newark (3/15) and UMass Dartmouth/Elmhurst (3/16) over the course of its 2018 spring trip to start the season in Florida.
The Green and Gold return to Massachusetts as it hosts the Engineers of WPI for a non-conference double headers (3/20) before traveling to Curry College for a twin billing (3/22). Fitchburg State continues non-conference play as it hosts the Hawks of Becker College for two games (3/27) before hitting the road for a double header against Gordon College (3/29).
The Falcons open conference play on Friday, March 30th as they host Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a twin-billing before hosting non-conference rival Plymouth State University for two games (4/5). Following a conference twin billing at MCLA (4/7), the Green and Gold return home to host Nichols College for a non-conference twin billing.
Fitchburg State then visits Brandeis University for two games (4/11) before hosting MASCAC rival Bridgewater State (DH). The Falcons travel to Westfield State (4/16) for a conference double header before concluding non-conference play with a twin billing at Wentworth (4/19).
The Green and Gold host the Vikings of Salem State University on Saturday, April 22nd for a MASCAC double header before wrapping up their 2018 regular season with a pair of conference twin billings, at Worcester State (4/24) and at Framingham State (4/28).
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament starts on May 2nd and runs through the championship game on May 6th.
