Softball Drops Doubleheader To Rams On Senior Day
Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State softball team dropped a pair of contests to the Rams of Framingham State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Donna Lee Withington Memorial Softball Field by the scores of 7-3 and 8-0.

Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State softball team dropped a pair of contests to the Rams of Framingham State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Donna Lee Withington Memorial Softball Field by the scores of 7-3 and 8-0.
This afternoon was senior day and the Fitchburg State softball team honored its two seniors prior to the contest for their contributions to the program with the seniors being #18 Madison Solt and #24 Shaelyn Burns.

How It Happened
Game One
Framingham State grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first as Ava Gray blasted a three-run home run down the right field line. Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of first when freshman Chloe Bafundo (Southington, CT) singled to center field, moved to second on a fielding miscue and crossed the plate on an RBI single to right field off the bat of junior Jessica Mueller (Fitchburg, MA).
The Rams pushed their advantage to 4-1 in the top of the second with Ellie Erernad-Gilbertson lacing an RBI double to center field that drove in Gianna Paolino. The Falcons answered back in the bottom of third frame as sophomore Lauren Ahearn (Danvers, MA) reached on a fielding miscue, advanced to second on sacrifice bunt before moving to third on Bafundo single and crossed the plated on an RBI fielders' choice from sophomore Paige Konopka (Middlefield, CT) to make the score 4-2.
Trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth, the Green and Gold trimmed the lead to 6-3 with newcomer Kiley Connors (Newington, CT) tripling to right field and scoring on an RBI groundout off the bat of Bafundo. The visitors secured the victory in the top of the seventh however when Maddie Blette brought in Gray with a sacrifice fly to center field, resulting in the 7-3 final.
By The Numbers
- Bafundo led the way for the Falcons, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored
- Konopka chipped with two hits and an RBI for the Green and Gold
- Senior Madison Solt (Salem, NH) took the loss for Fitchburg State, allowing seven runs (5 earned) on six hits and three K's in the complete game effort
Game Two
Framingham State raced out to a quick 3-0 advantage in the top of the first as Jocelyn Pepe laced a two-run double to left field, scoring Gray and Gilbertson before Amanda Roche brought in Pepe with a single to center field.
The Rams doubled their lead (6-0) in the top of the fourth with Pepe connecting on a two-run double to right field, while Blette followed with an RBI single to center field. The visitors secured the victory in the top of the sixth when Kate Brodzinski drove in Blette with a sacrifice fly, while Marina Cadena added an RBI double to right center that brought in Blette, resulting in the 8-0 final.

- Connor paced the Falcons, going 1-for-2 with a double
- Freshman Amaya Carrion (East Longmeadow, MA) hit 1-for-3 with a stolen base
- Freshman Alison Hazel (Winchendon, MA) suffered the set back for Fitchburg State, yielding eight runs on 15 hits over 5.1 innings of work
