Fitchburg State hires Matthew Chagnon as new Equipment & Operations Manager
FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State and Executive Director, Chief Athletics and Recreation Officer Matthew Burke has announced the hiring of Matthew Chagnon as the department's new Equipment & Operations Manager.
Chagnon joins the Falcons family after serving as Manager of Athletic Operations at The Pingree School, a prep high school in South Hamilton, Mass., where he managed athletic facilities, equipment, scheduling, and event operations for the school's 45 varsity, JV, and Freshman athletic teams. He officially began his role with Fitchburg State in July.
As Equipment & Operations Manager, Chagnon will oversee athletic equipment for Fitchburg State's 19 varsity sports while working closely with the department's student event staff. He will provide on-the-job training, oversee athletic venues and equipment, and help ensure successful game-day operations across all Falcons home events.
A graduate of Endicott College, Chagnon earned a bachelor's degree in Sport Management before completing his master's degree in Sport Leadership.
"We're excited to welcome Matt to the Fitchburg State Athletics family," said Burke, "His experience managing athletic operations, facilities and equipment, combined with his passion for creating a first-class experience for student-athletes, makes him an outstanding addition to our department. Matt's leadership and organizational skills will have an immediate impact on our athletic operations."
Prior to his most recent role at Pingree, Chagnon held several progressively responsible roles within the school's athletic department, including Interim Assistant Director of Athletics for Athletic Operations and Interim Athletics Operations & Auxiliary Coordinator. In those positions, he oversaw scheduling, game operations, equipment distribution, facility rentals, social media, and the supervision of student interns.
Chagnon also gained valuable experience through internships with St. John's Prep and Amherst College, where he assisted with contest management, equipment operations, scheduling, transportation, and department-wide projects.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Fitchburg State University and become part of such a passionate athletics department," said Chagnon. "I'm excited to work alongside our coaches, staff and student-athletes to help provide a first-class experience for our 19 varsity programs. I look forward to building relationships across campus and contributing to the continued success of Falcon Athletics."
