Thomas Moorshead enters his 1st season as Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse, Fitchurg's newest Varsity Sport.

Moorshead was named the inaugural head coach of the new men's varsity lacrosse program at Fitchburg State University in June 2026. A native of Ashburnham, Massachusetts, Moorshead was a standout lacrosse player at Oakmont Regional High School before continuing his playing career at University of Connecticut.

Moorshead brings a diverse coaching background to Fitchburg State, with previous stops at St. Bernard's High School, Nashoba Regional High School, and The Winchendon School, where he served as head coach for four years. Most recently, he was an assistant coach at Franklin Pierce University. In addition to leading the Falcons' men's lacrosse program, he will serve as the department's Athletics Recruiting Coordinator.

As the founding coach, Moorshead will oversee the development and launch of the program as Fitchburg State prepares for its inaugural varsity season in the spring of 2027. Known for emphasizing hard work, player development, and culture-building, he will guide the Falcons as they begin competition in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.

“I couldn’t be more excited...You can see what the university is trying to do to make this sport a success here. There’s no doubt in my mind that it’s going to be incredible in the short term and the long term. I can’t wait to start,” Said Coach Moorshead.
