Fitchburg State Falls Short to Cardinals, 3-2
Fitchburg State University baseball suffered their second setback of their southern swing on Sunday as the Falcons were defeated by Concordia-Chicago University, 3-2 at Chain of Lakes Park.

WINTER HAVEN, FL - Fitchburg State University baseball suffered their second setback of their southern swing on Sunday as the Falcons were defeated by Concordia-Chicago University, 3-2 at Chain of Lakes Park.
After the Green & Gold tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Brendan Cutler double to left field that scored Pierce Hans from first, the Cardinals responded the following inning as Kevin Garvey scored on a wild pitch that would end up being the game-winner.
The Cardinals kicked off the contest when Carlos Olavarria scored on a fielder's choice to short to take an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning of play. Fitchburg State tied up the score in the third when Mike St. John doubled down the right field line, scoring Donald Geloso from second.
Concordia tacked on their second run of the game in the sixth when Mitch Wilson made it to first on a strike three wild pitch, then got into scoring position on a passed ball. After reaching third on a single, he crossed home the following at-bat on a sacrifice to the pitcher by Joe Silva.
B. Cutler led the Falcons offense going 3-4 with one RBI, while Ryan Magni threw a complete game, tossing nine innings, yielding one earned run on six hits with nine strikeouts.
Fitchburg State will be back on the diamond tomorrow as they take on Bowdoin College at Pat Thomas Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 pm.
