Falcons end Florida trip with fifth win of season
WINTER HAVEN, FL - Fitchburg State University (5-4) concluded their annual spring trip with a convincing 3-1 win over Clarkson University (5-1) on Sunday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Park. Kyle Cutler picked up the victory on the mound tossing 7.1 innings with one earned run and four strikeouts.
Fitchburg State broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning when the Falcons erupted for two runs. Mike Martignetti singled to left field that scored Steven Drury Jr., then Donald Geloso plated in Luis Ortiz on a single to right field.
The Golden Knights scored their only run of the game in the sixth inning when Jasek singled to center field scoring Jenack.
Junior second baseman Roel Fernandez reached on a fielder's choice that prevented an inning-ending double play that pushed across the Falcons third run of the day in Ortiz.
Freshman Tommy Parsons came out of the bullpen to preserve the edge, tossing a hitless two-thirds of an inning, while Javier Lozada picked up his third save of the young season with a scoreless ninth inning.
Mike St. John and Brendan Cutler both went 2-4 in the winning effort.
The Green & Gold will return home this week and are scheduled to host Anna Maria on Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
