MASCAC Football Pre-Season Poll Announced

Falcons collect 39 points for fourth pick overall

FITCHBURG, Mass. (August 25,  2014) – The Fitchburg State football team was recently picked fourth overall in the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season football poll.

Framingham State, which won the inaugural MASCAC football championship title last fall, captured seven of the nine first place votes to obtain 63 points. Following close behind Framingham State was Western Connecticut State with two first place votes for 57 points, while Bridgewater State placed third overall with 49 points.

Rounding out the top five teams were Fitchburg State and Westfield State with 39 and 33 points respectively, while Mass-Maritime landed sixth in the poll with 31points. Worcester State was slated to finish seventh with 25 points, while UMass-Dartmouth and Plymouth State closed out the 2014 poll with 18 and nine points respectively.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success, while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013.

The Fitchburg State football team will kickoff the 2014 season on Friday, September 5th as it visits Becker College at 7 p.m.
