MASCAC Football Pre-Season Poll Announced
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team was recently picked third overall in the 2015 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season football poll as announced by the conference office this afternoon.
Falcons collect 39 points for third pick overall
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team was recently picked third overall in the 2015 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season football poll as announced by the conference office this afternoon.
Framingham State was selected to repeat as MASCAC football champions in a vote of the league's coaches, capturing seven of the nine first place votes to obtain 63 points. Following close behind Framingham State was Western Connecticut State with two first place vote for 58 points, while the Falcons of Fitchburg State placed third overall with 42 points.
Rounding out the top five teams were Bridgewater State and Worcester, who tied for the fourth spot with 38 points each, while Westfield State landed sixth in the poll with 32 points. UMass Dartmouth was slated to finish seventh with 25 points, while Mass. Maritime and Plymouth State closed out the 2015 poll with 20 and eight points respectively.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success, while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013.
The Fitchburg State football team will kickoff the 2015 season on Friday, September 4th as it hosts the Hawks of Becker College at 7 p.m.
