Ta. Van Ahnen highlights Falcon defense with nine saves in key LEC victory
FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 1, 2008) - The Fitchburg State field hockey collected an impressive 1-0 victory over UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference action this evening at Elliot Field.
Senior Heather Di Terlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) led the Fitchburg offense with one goal while sophomore Megan Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) added an assist.
After a silent first half Di Terlizzi gave the Falcons a 1-0 edge and broke the scoring silence in the 41st minute of the match. The crafty veteran took a dish from Jacobs and slipped it past UMass Dartmouth goalkeeper Seana Golden (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang) to net her third goal of the season.
UMass Dartmouth out-shot Fitchburg State 17-7 in the contest, but the Corsairs could not capitalize as the Falcons defense stood strong to earn their third shutout of the season. Sophomore goaltender Taylor Van Ahnen (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) recorded nine saves in net for the Falcons, including two clutch kick saves with four minutes remaining in the match.
