NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. (September 30, 2009) - The Fitchburg State field hockey team suffered its third loss of the season as it fell to UMass Dartmouth, 3-1 in Little East Conference action this evening.

UMass Dartmouth notched a one goal advantage early in the first half and registered two consecutive scores in the second frame to collect its fifth victory of the season. Stephanie Kinchia (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) opened the Corsair scoring in the 22nd minute of the match as the junior forward registered her team-leading tenth goal of the season off a Kellie Finn (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) assist.
In the second half, UMass Dartmouth continued its hot shooting as Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, Mass./Bishop Stang) connected for her third goal of the season at the 40:31 mark. Becca Festinger (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield) followed moments later as Taylor fed the junior for her first score of the season.
Fitchburg State broke its scoring silence late in the second half as junior Megan Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) netted an unassisted goal in the 58th minute, but UMass Dartmouth keeper Seana Golden (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang) made three, second-half saves to preserve the two goal victory.
UMass Dartmouth out-shot Fitchburg State, 11-8 in the contest, while holding a commanding 15-4 edge in penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper Taylor Van Ahnen (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) recorded six saves between the pipes for the Falcons, while Golden stopped four saves for the Corsairs.
Fitchburg State (5-3, 3-1 LEC) will be in action again this Saturday as it travels to Framingham State College at 11 a.m. UMass Dartmouth (5-4, 3-1 LEC) will host Salem State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
