Fitchburg State Silences Worcester State, 2-0

Bartalamia scores a pair in Falcons second LEC victory

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 19, 2009) - Senior Paula Bartalamia (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) scored both Fitchburg State goals as the Falcons silenced Worcester State, 2-0 in Little East Conference action this afternoon.

Bartalamia initiated both scoring drives for Fitchburg State, finding the back of the net in both halves of play. In the first period, the senior forward gave the Falcons the early 1-0 edge, netting her fifth goal of the season at the 22:48 mark. Bartalamia took a feed from freshman Jamie Kelly (Pepperell, Mass./North Middlesex) and beat goaltender Katherine Masterjohn (Warren, Mass./Quabog) on an outside cross for the early lift.

In the second, Bartalamia struck again, giving Fitchburg State a 2-0 advantage. Sophomore Heather Jerome (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) collected her second assist on the season, setting up Bartalamia for her sixth marker of the year in the 54th minute of the match.

Fitchburg State seemingly controlled the offensive momentum, totaling a 15-4 advantage in shots, including 11 attempts on net. Junior keeper Taylor Van Ahnen (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) wasn't tested in the matched as she collected the victory in her first game back with the Falcons. Masterjohn endured the complete game effort for the Lancers, totaling eight saves on the day.

Fitchburg State (4-1, 2-0 LEC) will be in action again on Tuesday as it travels to Salve Regina University at 4 p.m. Worcester State (2-4, 0-2 LEC) will host WPI on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
