Fitchburg State got on the board first in just the fourth minute of the match as senior Torey Van Ahnen (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) collected her first goal of the season off an assist by classmate Mari Roma (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough). The Falcons extended their lead to 2-0 just five minutes later as junior Kaylee Bergeron (Acushnet, Mass./New Bedford) deposited a shot off a nice Jacobs’ feed at the 8:22 mark.
Later in the half, the Falcons opened a commanding 4-0 lead as junior Kathleen Kearney (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney) and Roma connected for a pair of markers. Kearney ignited the late scoring surge with an unassisted tally at the 22:30 mark while Roma wrapped up the first half scoring with a successful penalty stroke at 25:09.
In the second frame, Fitchburg State continued its offensive pressure , taking a 5-0 lead on sophomore Jamie Kelley's (Pepperell, Mass./North Middlesex) lone score of the game. The goal was set-up by Jacobs, who weaved her way nicely through the center of the defense to set-up Kelley for an optimum scoring chance.
The Falcons also received goals from Rebecca Bush (Littleton, Mass./Littleton), Heather Jerome (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) and Jacobs to close out the second-half and seal the 8-0 victory. The visitors finished with a 27-1 advantage in shots and a 16-0 edge in corners during the match.
Senior goalie Allyssa Boykin (Worcester, Mass.) and freshman goalie Jenna Glass (Plymouth, Mass.) did their best to keep the AMCATS in the game, adding seven saves and five saves, respectively. Sophomore Abbie Brown (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) earned her first victory of the season for the Falcons as she faced zero shots through 35 minutes of work.
