Torres posts a game-high 22 points for Falcons despite loss
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (January 17, 2009) - Senior Brian Torres (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) tallied 22 points and three boards as Fitchburg State fell to Bridgewater State, 80-71 in MASCAC conference action this afternoon.
Torres paced the Falcons from the floor, shooting 8-of-19 from the floor en route to a team-high 22 points. Junior Tim Graham (Arlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic) added 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while senior Jeff Kozik (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) and sophomore Elliot Knower (Templeton, Mass./Narragansett) each chipped in with 11 points.

Sophomore Judah Jackson (Everett, Mass./Everett) posted a team-high 20 points to lead the Bridgewater State Bears to their ninth victory of the season. Senior Roland Millien (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) was also solid with a double-double, totaling 14 points and 14 boards, while classmate Stace Garrick (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick) chipped in with 18 points and three caroms.
Fitchburg State held a slim 41-40 lead at the end of the first half led by the offensive play of Knower. Knower led the Falcons to an impressive 50.0% shooting percentage in the first half, connecting for 11 points in the frame on 5-of-7 shooting, while Graham and junior Colin London (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) each added eight.
In the second half, Bridgewater State surged ahead, posting 40 points in the half while holding off the hot hand of Torres. Torres totaled 15 points in the second half on 5-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-4 from three point range, but the Bears battled back as Garrick and Jackson combined for 26 points throughout the frame
Fitchburg State (5-7, 0-2 MASCAC) will be in action again Tuesday as it hosts Bridgewater State College at 7:30 p.m. Bridgewater State (9-5, 2-1 MASCAC) will also face Worcester State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
