London posts double-double in Falcons third straight victory
FITCHBURG, Mass. (December 5, 2009) - Senior Colin London (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) notched a game high 19 points and 12 rebounds leading Fitchburg State past Daniel Webster College, 76-68 in a non-conference action this afternoon.

Freshman Robert Hopkins (E. Hartford, Conn./E. Hartford) added 14 points off the bench and senior Jonathan Evans (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) scored 11 as the Falcons (3-3) won their third straight after a 0-3 start. Captain Tim Graham (Arlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic) added ten points in the contest while newcomer Stephen Verdi (Revere, Mass.Malden) chipped in with seven off the bench.
Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) led the Eagles (3-3) with 16 points, while Chris Voukides (Salem, N.H.) and Victor Rios (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 10 each with Rios dishing out a game high five assists.
The Falcons, who held a five point lead at the half (33-27), rode strong bench play in the second half to shoot 50-percent from the field as the bench provided 25 points. Fitchburg State also finished with an important advantage on the boards (47-39) including 14 on the offensive glass and 17 forced turnovers.
In the second half of action, the score saw six ties and two lead changes as the game remained tight down the stretch until the final two minutes. The Eagles held a 58-54 lead with 7:02 remaining before Hopkins nailed a three from outside and later tied it at the line for a 58-58 tie.
Rios regained Daniel Webster's lead as he knocked down one of two at the line, but Verdi followed suit for the Falcons, drawing a foul and knocking down both freebies for a one-point lead. Hopkins added to the Falcons lead moments later with a layup and transfer Brandon Edelstein (Upper Merion, Pa./Harriton) added a big 10-foot jumper for a five-point game (64-59) with 4:24 to go.
Fitchburg State (3-3, 0-0 MASCAC) will be in action again on Tuesday as it travels to Fisher College at 7 p.m. Daniel Webster (3-3, 0-0 NECC) will travel to Thomas College next Friday for the Terrier tournament.
