Men’s Basketball Picked To Claim 2015-16 MASCAC Title

Falcons finish with 36 points in MASCAC’s Pre-Season Coaches Poll

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men’s basketball team have been selected to win the  2015-16 MASCAC Men’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league officer on Wednesday afternoon.

The Falcons received six of the seven first place votes for a total of 36 points to outdistance Salem State’s second place total of 29 points, which included the final first place ballot. Landing in third was Bridgewater State with 24 total points, while the Lancers of Worcester State followed in fourth with 20 points.

Westfield State was selected to finish fifth with 14 points, while the Rams of Framingham State and MCLA rounded out this year’s coaches poll in a tie of sixth with 12 points each.

The Falcons will kick off the year this weekend as they travel to UMass Dartmouth for the 2015 Hampton Inn Classic. On Friday in the opening night the Falcons will take on Springfield College at 5:30 pm. 

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s first Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC core member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men’s ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
