Hutton nets team-leading sixth goal of season in Falcon setback
BURLINGTON, Vt. (January 2, 2009) - Junior Andrew Hutton (Brewster, Mass./Boston Harbor Wolves) netted the lone Falcon goal as Amherst College topped Fitchburg State, 4-1 in round one of the Saint Michael's Holiday Tournament.

Hutton registered his team-leading sixth goal of the season, while freshman Kris Threlkeld (Centerville, Ohio/CD Selects) and classmate Thomas McAleer (East Islip, N.Y./New York Bobcats) chipped in with one assist each.
Amherst used a balanced attack in its third victory of the season as four different Jeffs posted goals. Senior Will Collins (Edina, Minn./Edina) and sophomore Luke Arnold (Lincoln, Mass./Belmont HS) recorded one goal and one assist each, while sophomore Matthew Rhone (Dedham, MA/Deerfield Academy) and senior Ted Vickers (Chilliwack, BC/ Mouat Secondary) each tallied a score and a helper.
Amherst notched three consecutive goals over the first 57 minutes of play to remain unbeaten in its last four contests. The Jeffs posted a 2-0 advantage through the first two periods as Rhone and Collins netted scores in the first and second frame respectively.
The Jeffs tacked on another score midway through the third period as Arnold connected for his second goal of the season. Fitchburg State broke its scoring silence at the 57:40 mark as Hutton pushed through 19th career goal off assists from McAleer and Threlkeld. Amherst added its fourth score of the match with 1:06 remaining in regulation to ice the game.
Amherst out-shot Fitchburg State 29-18 in the contest. Sophomore Robert Vorse (Leominster, Mass./Bay State Breakers) stopped 25 shots in net for the Falcons, while sophomore Cole Anderson (Sylvan Lake, Alberta/Olds) made 17 saves for the Jeffs.
Fitchburg State (5-5-0, 2-2-0 ECAC NE) will be in action tomorrow as it faces Saint Michael's College at 4 p.m. Amherst (3-2-1, 2-1-1 NESCAC) will take on Nichols College at 1 p.m.
