McAleer posts a game-high three points to lead Falcons to fifth victory of season
BOSTON, Mass. (December 29, 2008) - Freshman Thomas McAleer (East Islip, N.Y./New York Bobcats) posted three points on two goals and one assist as Fitchburg State defeated Suffolk University, 5-2 in round one of the Codfish Bowl held in Boston, Massachusetts.

McAleer lead the explosive Falcon attack with a game-high three points and the game's winning goal, while sophomore Chris Riggs (Sewell, N.J./Fort Vancouver Pioneers) added two assists. Junior Andrew Hutton (Brewster, Mass./Boston Harbor Wolves), freshman Kris Threlkeld (Centerville, Ohio/CD Selects), and sophomore Billy Pescosolido (Framingham, Mass./Walpole Express) each netted one goal to aid the Fitchburg State attack.
Junior Mike Mondello (Revere, Mass./Saint Mary's) and classmate Niles Moore (Columbus, Ohio/Bay State) paced the Suffolk offense with one goal apiece, while senior Kyle Cook (Chino Hills, Calif./Ayala) and junior Brian Smusz (Daleville, Va./Laconia) chipped in with one assist each.
Fitchburg State opened the match with a quick 2-0 lead in the first period as Pescosolido and McAleer connected for back-to-back goals in a 2:02 span. Pescosolido ignited the scoring with his first goal of the season at the 6:52 mark, while McAleer notched his first goal of the game moments later.
Suffolk responded early in the second period as Mondello netted his second goal of the season just 0:16 into the frame. The Falcons increased its lead to 3-1 midway through the period as McAleer registered his second goal of the match (3rd of the season) at the 12:11 mark.
In the third period, Fitchburg State iced the game with consecutive scores over a 1:26 span. Threlkeld started the Falcons scoring surge with his third collegiate goal while Hutton recorded his team-leading fifth goal of the season. The Rams added a late goal by Moore but sophomore goalkeeper Robert Vorse (Leominster, Mass./Bay State Breaker) collected 22 saves to preserve the Falcons fifth victory of the season.
Fitchburg State (5-3-0, 2-2-0 ECAC NE) will be in action again tomorrow as it participates in day two of the Codfish Bowl at 5 p.m. Suffolk (2-8-0, 2-3-0 ECAC NE) will be in action tomorrow at 2 p.m.
