Fitchburg State Blanks Worcester State, 1-0
The Fitchburg State ice hockey team improved to 2-0 on its young season, defeating Worcester State College, 1-0 in the championship round of the UBS Tournament at Buffone Rink.
Falcons capture UBS Tournament Championship with second victory of the season
WORCESTER, Mass. (November 7, 2008) - The Fitchburg State ice hockey team improved to 2-0 on its young season, defeating Worcester State College, 1-0 in the championship round of the UBS Tournament at Buffone Rink.

Freshman forward Ted Fabian (Oakland, Maine/Boston Bulldogs) scored the game's only goal as he connected for his first collegiate score at the 13:56 mark of the second period. The goal was assisted by senior John Coutts (Milford, Conn./Notre Dame HS) and classmate Aaron Tiernan (Anchorage, AK/Central Texas Marshals).
After Fabian's score the Falcons relied upon goalkeeper Bobby Leiser (Monroe, N.Y./New York Applecore) who outdueled Worcester State's net-minder, junior Andrew Evans (Cromwell, Conn.). Leiser made 26 saves in net for the Falcon, including 13 stops in the third period. With the victory, Leiser posted his first collegiate shutout, while earning the tournament¹s Most Outstanding Player award. Evans notched 30 saves for the Lancers.
Joining Leiser on the tournament's All-Tournament team were: senior defenseman Bill Knuber (Buffalo, N.Y.) and freshman forward John Cahalane (Tewksbury, Mass.) of Worcester State; sophomore forward Matt St. Pierre (Alexandrai, Va./Hebron) of Assumption; senior forward Conor Mc Cahill (Highlands Ranch, Col.) of Salve Regina and fellow teammate Chris Riggs (Sewell, N.J./Fort Vancouver Pioneers)
Fitchburg State (2-0-0, 0-0-0 ECAC NE) will be in action again on Tuesday as it host Curry College at 7 p.m. Worcester State (1-1-0, 0-0-0 ECAC NE) will travel to Wentworth on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
