Vorse tallies 28 saves in Falcons setback
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (December 3, 2008) - The Fitchburg State ice hockey dropped a tough 3-0 contest to UMass Dartmouth in non-conference action this evening at the Stephan Hetland Memorial Ica Arena.
UMass Dartmouth used a balanced attack scoring once in each period to take home its sixth victory of the season. Sophomore forward Jason Stahl (Londonderry, NH/Valley Jr. Warriors-EJHL) ignited the Corsair scoring, tallying the first goal of the game from the face-off circle just 0:11 into a power play.
In the second period, freshman forward Craig Cardone gave UMass a 2-0 advantage netting his first goal of the season at 15:08 mark. Cardone took a pass from freshman Shawn Manning (Stoughton, MA/Salisbury School) and backhanded the puck to the back of the net from point-blank range.
UMass Dartmouth continued its constant pressure with its third goal of the match at the 13:26 mark of the third period. Freshman forward Paul Graham (Quincy, MA/Northern Cyclones) registered the Corsair score, connecting a shot from just out-side the face-off circle.
The Corsairs out-shot the Falcons 31-20 in the contest. Senior goaltender Jeff Green (Medway, Mass./Valley Jr. Warriors) made 20 saves to earn the shutout, while sophomore goaltender Bobby Vorse (Leominster, MA/Bay State Breakers) stopped 28 shots for the Falcons
Fitchburg State (4-2-0, 2-1-0 ECAC NE) will be in action again next Wednesday as it hosts Nichols College at 7 p.m. UMass Dartmouth (6-2-1, 4-0-0 ECAC NE) will host Curry College on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
