Arsenault nets unassisted game-winner in Falcons seventh victory of the season
FITCHBURG, Mass. (January 24, 2009) - Senior Matt Arsenault (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) netted an unassisted game-winning goal to propel the Falcons over Western New England College, 2-1 in ECAC Northeast action this evening.
Arsenault and sophomore Chris Riggs (Sewell, N.J./Fort Vancouver Pioneers) led the Fitchburg State charge with one goal apiece, while sophomore Erik Trahan (Manville, R.I./Winchendon School) added one assist. Freshman Mike Kasesloukas (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) scored the lone goal for Western New England.

Fitchburg State took a 1-0 lead early in the first period as Riggs connected for his seventh goal of the season at the 7:31 mark. Riggs teamed up with Trahan on the score to give the Falcons an early edge.
In a high-paced second period, Western New England rallied back, knotting the score at 1-1. Kaselouskas led the Golden Bears as he deposited a short-handed goal just 3:40 into the period for his third score of the year.
Fitchburg State increased the tempo of the match in the third frame and it paid dividends as Arsenault netted the potential game-winner on the Falcons power-play at the 11:47 mark. Arsenault won the Falcon face-off and slashed to the middle of the ice before depositing his sixth goal of the season to give Fitchburg State the one goal advantage.
Fitchburg State held a slim 27-26 advantage in shots, while converting one power-play attempt which proved to be the game-winner. Sophomore Robert Vorse (Leominster, Mass./Bay State Breakers) was solid in net for the Falcons, totaling 25 saves, while junior Justin Richards (Somers, Conn./Somers) stopped 25 shots in the complete game effort for the Golden Bears
Fitchburg State (7-6-4, 4-3-2 ECAC NE) will hit the ice again on Wednesday as it travels to Becker College at 8:35 p.m. Western New England (1-14-1, 1-6-1 ECAC NE) will travel to Manhattanville College on Tuesday at 7:20 p.m.
