Hutton collects three points in Falcons fourth draw of the season
WORCESTER, Mass. (January 22, 2009) - Junior Andrew Hutton (Brewster, Mass./Boston Harbor Wolves) recorded two goals and one assist as Fitchburg State battled Worcester State to a 5-5 draw in ECAC Northeast action this evening.
Hutton added to his team-leading points total (21), posting his 11th and 12th goals of the season and his ninth assist of the year. Senior Bob Kaloustian (Marlborough, Mass./Suffolk University) tallied two points on one goal and one assist, while classmate Aaron Tiernan (Anchorage, AK/Helena Big Horns) and captain Wayne Bonkowski (Onsted, Mich./Boston Jr. Blackhawks) added one goal apiece.

Junior Mark Rintel (Queens, N.Y./Santa Fe Roadrunners) led the Worcester State attack with three points on two goals and one assist, while sophomore Shaun Tribbett (Austin, Texas/SUNY-Morrisville) notched one score and one helper. Freshman Cody Warila (Shirley, Mass./Boston Jr. Bruins) paced the Lancers with two assists.
Fitchburg State jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after one period of play as Hutton and Bonkowski connected for back-to-back goals over a 3:17 span midway through the frame. Hutton ignited the scoring with his first goal of the game at the 8:21 mark while Bonkowski registered his first score of the season moments later.
In the second period, the Falcons increased their lead, taking a 5-2 lead into the break. Hutton spearheaded the Fitchburg State rally with his second score of the contest, while Tiernan and Kaloustian deposited tallies later in the period. Tribbett broke up the Falcons scoring explosion with a Lancer goal midway through the frame.
Trailing 5-2 in the final period, Worcester State rallied back, scoring three consecutive goals to force overtime. Junior Andy Orsini (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe CC) kick-started the Worcester State comeback with his sixth goal of the season, while Rintel and sophomore Chris Wallin (Avon, Conn./Valley Forge Minutemen) added scores to knot the score at 5-5.
In the overtime period, defense prevailed as neither team could muster more than one shot on net. Worcester State out-shot Fitchburg State 44-34 in the contest, while the Falcons converted 2-of-5 power-plays. Freshman Bobby Leiser (Monroe, N.Y./New York Applecore) totaled 39 saves for the Falcons, while junior Andrew Evans (Cromwell, Conn./MassConn Braves) stopped 29 shots for the Lancers.
Fitchburg State (6-6-4, 3-3-2 ECAC NE) will hit the ice again on Saturday as it hosts Western New England College at 4 p.m. Worcester State (3-9-1, 1-5-1 ECAC NE) will host Stonehill College on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
