The Pilgrims would get on the board early as Trevor Turner (Westbank, B.C.) would rebound in a shot assisted by Mark Ehl (N. Vancouver, B.C.) and Emil Alengard (Likoping, Sweden) just 6:49 into the game. Freshman Trevor Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass./New England Jr. Huskies) would send the game into the first intermission knotted at 1-1 as the rookie forward fired a shot over the shoulder of NEC goalie Conner Sampson (Whitby, Ontario) at the 15:14 mark.
In the second, the Falcons struck early as freshman as Chris Costigan (Salem, N.H./Northern Cyclones) netted his fourth goal of the season just 1:49 into the period off sophomore Thomas McAleer's (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) assist. The Pilgrims would have plenty of second period opportunities, outshooting the Falcons 17-9, but New England College came up short heading into the final period trailing 2-1.
Fitchburg State padded its lead just five minutes into the third period as junior Andrew Jones (Franklin, Mass./Walpole Express) registered his first marker of the season off a Costigan and McAleer helper. The Falcons added an empty netter late in the period to clinch the 4-1 victory.
New England College outshot Fitchburg State 53-25 in the contest, but sophomore goaltender Bobby Leiser (Monroe, N.Y./New York Applecore) earned the victory, totaling a career-best 52 saves in net. Sampson finished the night with 21 saves for the Pilgrims.
