Roger Williams Rolls Past Fitchburg State, 5-0
The Fitchburg State men’s soccer team opened the 2012 season this afternoon, falling to Roger Williams University, 5-0 in opening round action of the eighth annual RWU Turfer Classic.

BRISTON, R.I. (September 1, 2012) – The Fitchburg State men's soccer team opened the 2012 season this afternoon, falling to Roger Williams University, 5-0 in opening round action of the eighth annual RWU Turfer Classic.
Roger Williams (1-0-0) and Montclair State (1-0-0) will face off in the championship game tomorrow at 1:30 p.m., while Baruch (0-1-0) and Fitchburg State (0-1-0) play in the consolation game.
The Hawks came out firing on all cylinders in the opening half as Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine) scored twice for RWU within the first 17 minutes of play. His first score came off a short pass by Daniel Caruso (Tewksbury, Mass.) into the middle of the box. Hoxsie maneuvered around the keeper for the empty netter. He later put in a header over the keeper from the left side to give RWU a 2-0 lead.
In addition to RWU's offense, the defense held Fitchburg State without a shot over the course of the entire first half.
In the second half, Kamali Webson (Bellingham, Mass.) scored his first goal of the year, heading in a corner kick from Scott Boucher (Harwinton, Conn.) less than two minutes into the period. In the 51st minute, Hoxsie completed the hat trick on a penalty kick to give the Hawks a 4-0 advantage. James Sheldon (Amherst, N.H.) wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 78th minute off of a cross by Darren McCall (Willington, Conn.).
Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.) earned the win for RWU, making two save in 63:55 of action. Sophomore Aidan Hanratty (East Bridgewater, Mass.) took the loss, allowing four goals while stopping six shots.
