MASCAC Pre-Season Men's Soccer Poll Announced

Falcons collect 23 points for fifth pick overall

FITCHBURG, Mass. –The Fitchburg State men's soccer team was recently selected fifth overall with a total of 23 points in the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season men's soccer poll. 

Worcester State, which claimed the conference's regular season and post-season titles last fall, captured three first place votes for 45 points, while Bridgewater State placed second with a total of 40 points, including three first place ballots.

Landing in the third slot is Framingham State with 39 points, which included the final two first place votes, while Massachusetts Maritime ranked fourth in the pre-season poll with 28 points.

Fitchburg State was selected fifth with 23 points, while Salem State finished in sixth with a total of 18 points. Rounding out the 2017 pre-season MASCAC men's soccer poll are MCLA and Westfield State with 17 and 14 points respectively

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football in 2013-14.

The Fitchburg State men's soccer team will kick off its 2017 season on Saturday, September 2nd as it hosts the Blazers of Elms College at Elliot Field for a contest starting at 3:00 PM.
