Softball Picked Sixth In Pre-Season Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. ? The Fitchburg State softball team was recently picked sixth overall in the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
Falcons notch 21 points in 2019 MASCAC Softball Coaches Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State softball team was recently picked sixth overall in the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
The Rams of Framingham State are the pre-season pick to win the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball championship in a vote of the league's coaches. The defending MASCAC regular season and tournament champions collected five first place votes en-route to amassing 47 points, while Worcester State followed in second place with 39 points.
Following in the third slot was Westfield State with a total of 37 points, which included one first place ballot, while Bridgewater State tied the Owls in third after registering 37 points as well. Salem State landed in fifth place with 23 points, while the Falcons of Fitchburg State placed sixth with 21 points.
MCLA slide into the seventh slot with 13 points, while the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy closed out this year's softball pre-season poll in eighth place with a total of seven points.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in the sport of football for the 2013-14 academic year.
