Softball Falls Twice To Buccaneers In MASCAC Twin Bill
Buzzards Bay, Mass. – The Fitchburg State softball team dropped a pair of contests to the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Rollins Field by the scores of 9-8 and 8-4.
Mueller notch five hits and four RBI for Green & Gold

How It Happened
Game One
Fitchburg State grabbed a 5-1 advantage in the top of the second as freshman Kiley Connors (Newington, CT) registered a two-run single up the middle to drive in sophomore Lauren Ahearn (Danvers, MA) and newcomer Amaya Carrion (E. Longmeadow, MA) before junior Jessica Mueller (Fitchburg, MA) followed with a two-run double down the right field to drive in junior Julia Cooper (Lumberton, NJ) and freshman Chloe Bafundo (Southington, CT).
Trailing 7-5 in the top of the fifth, the Falcons knotted the score at 7-7 when sophomore Priscilla Dillon Glennville, GA) doubled to center field, scoring Cooper before Mueller crossed the plate on an RBI groundout Carrion.
The Green and Gold retied the contest at 8-8 in the top of the seventh with Bafundo coming around to score on wild pitch, but Mass. Maritime secured the victory in the bottom of the eighth, resulting in the 9-8 final.
By The Numbers
- Mueller led the way for the Falcons, going 3-for-4 with a double, one run scored and two RBI
- Connors added two hits, one run scored and two RBI
- Freshman Brianna Lynch (Pittsfield, MA) suffered the setback for Fitchburg State, allowing two runs on eight hits and three K's in five innings of relief
Game Two
Fitchburg State jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the top of first when Mueller doubled to left center to drive in Carrion. Mass. Maritime grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs in the frame for the 3-1 edge.
Trailing 4-1 in the top of the third, the Falcons knotted the contest at 4-4 with Mueller lacing an RBI double down the left field line to drive in Carrion and sophomore Paige Konopka (Middlefield, CT) followed with a two-run double through the left side that plated Mueller and sophomore Ariana Baez (Methuen, MA).
The Buccaneers would secure the victory however in the bottom of the fifth, regaining the lead for good on a two-run triple, resulting in the 8-4 final.

- Mueller paced the Falcons, hitting 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and one run scored
- Konopka added two hits, including a double and two RBI
- Freshman Alison Hazel (Winchendon, MA) took the loss Fitchburg State, giving up eight runs (7 earned) on13 hits and three strikeouts on six innings of work
