Townsend, Mass. native collects first weekly honor of the season
FITCHBURG, Mass. (December 8, 2008) - Fitchburg State senior captain Stephanie Payette (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex) was tabbed the MASCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week as selected by the conference's Sports Information Director.
In a 2-1 week for the Falcons, Payette averaged 15 points and seven rebounds en route to her 1000th career point. Payette became only the 8th lady Falcon to reach this milestone with her 19 point effort vs. Nichols. The veteran center added 14 points and four boards in a 55-48 victory over Clark University, while posting 12 points and eight caroms in a 79-69 triumph over Rivier College.
This season, Payette has led the Fitchburg State attack with 14.9 points per game. She is shooting 48.0% from the field on 47-of-98 shooting over 230 minutes of work. Payette has totaled a team-high 45 rebounds over eight games, while posting six blocks and 15 steals. Payette's 14.9 ppg currently ranks fourth among MASCAC leaders, while her field goal percentage ranks seventh.
Fitchburg State (5-3, 0-0 MASCAC) will be in action again on Wednesday as it travels to Western New England College at 7 p.m.
