Framingham State Propels Past Fitchburg State, 78-66

Duprey paces Falcons with team-best 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (January 29, 2011) – Senior Kim Duprey (Bernardston, Mass./Pioneer Valley) registered a team-best 18 points for the Fitchburg State women’s basketball team but the Falcons fell to host, Framingham State University, 78-66 in MASCAC action this afternoon.

Duprey shot 50.0% from the floor, hitting 6-of-12 from three point range to pace Fitchburg State, while senior Melissa Proffitt (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Regional) added 16 points and six rebounds off the bench. Freshman Amy Fahey (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) also hit double-figures, posting 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting for the afternoon.
With the game tied at 5-5, the Rams started connecting from behind the arc and used an 18-7 run to take a 23-12 lead with 11:22 on the clock. Freshman Cassie Liston (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) connected on 3-of-3 from behind the arc on the run, while classmate Kristen Hoffman (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) also knocked down a trifecta. The Rams continued their hot shooting, extending their lead to 15 with a 44-29 margin heading into the locker room.
Both teams were firing from all cylinders from behind the arc in the first half as the Rams shot 73% (8-11) and the Falcons connected on 50% of their offerings from long range. Hoffman led the Rams with 12 first half points including 4-of-5 from three, while Liston hit 3-of-4 from down town in the opening stanza. Duprey went 4-of-6 behind the arc for 12 first half points for the Falcons.
The Rams extended their lead to as many as 17 midway through the second half, before the Falcons used an 8-0 run highlighted by a three from Duprey to pull within nine (60-51) at the 7:32 mark. Framingham State regrouped and pushed the lead back to 15 late in the contest and did not let the Falcons get closer than ten the rest of the way.
Sophomore Kia Minor (Edgartown, Mass./Martha’s Vineyard) led four Rams in double figures with her 21 in the game on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor to go along with a game-high eight boards. Hoffman finished the game with 18 points including 4-of-7 from behind the arc, while Liston and forward Emily Clark (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) each contributed 11.
Fitchburg State (8-9, 2-4 MASCAC) will be in action again on Thursday as it hosts Worcester State University at 5:30 p.m. Framingham State (10-9, 2-4 MASCAC) will travel to Bridgewater State University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
