Falcons finish with 18 points in MASCAC’s Pre-Season Coaches Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 8, 2012) – The Fitchburg State women’s basketball team was recently selected fifth in the 2012-13 MASCAC Women’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league officer Wednesday afternoon.
Led by junior Amy Fahey (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington), who was named a Division III Women’s Basketball Pre-Season All-American, the women’s basketball team collected 18 points en route to a fifth place ranking. The Bears of Bridgewater State were selected as the pre-season favorite, claiming five first place votes to amass 47 points, while runner-up Westfield State totaled 41 points that included one first place vote. Worcester State (33) and Salem State (29) finished in third and fourth respectively with MCLA and Framingham State rounded out the poll with 18 points and ten points each.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.
