Women’s Basketball Picked Fifth In Pre-Season Poll

Falcons finish with 13 points in MASCAC’s Pre-Season Coaches Poll

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women’s basketball team were selected fifth  in the 2015-16 MASCAC Women’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league officer Wednesday afternoon.

The Rams of Framingham State were picked to the claim the 2015-16 MASCAC women’s basketball crown after amassing a total of 35 points, which included five of the seven first place votes to outdistance Bridgewater State’s second place total of 28 points, including one first place ballot.

Westfield State finished in third with 26 points, while the Lancers of Worcester State landed in fourth with a total of 25 points, which included the final first place vote. Fitchburg State followed in fifth with 13 points, while MCLA and Salem State rounded out the poll in sixth and seventh with 12 points and eight points respectively.

The Fitchburg State women's basketball team opens its season this weekend as it travels to Johnson & Wales University to take on the Wildcats for a 1 p.m. tipoff on Saturday.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s first Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC core member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men’s ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
