Smith-Akpan Earns MASCAC Rookie of the Week
FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State Freshman guard Shanell Smith-Akpan (West Warwick, RI) was recently named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's basketball Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State Freshman guard Shanell Smith-Akpan (West Warwick, RI) was recently named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's basketball Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. This marks her second time being named ROTW through the conference.
Smith-Akpan averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and 1.5 steals during a 1-1 week for the Falcons. In their win against Mount Holyoke, she scored 11 points, made four blocks, assisted three times, and stole the ball twice. She then contributed 20 points and seven rebounds in the 73-61 loss to Colby-Sawyer.
The Fitchburg State women's basketball team (2-3) returns to action tonight when it hosts Dean College in non-conference action, starting at 6:00 PM.
