Swan collects eight points in Falcons first conference victory of the season
CHICOPEE, Mass. (March 30, 2010) – Senior Emily Swan (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) collected a game-high eight points as Fitchburg State cruised to an 18-1 victory over Elms College in New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) this evening.

Swan paced an explosive 18 goal attack from the Falcons, registering a game-best five goals and three assists while sophomore Amanda Burns (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) added five points with three scores and two helpers. Freshman Jamie Kelley (Pepperell, Mass./North Middlesex) was also strong on the attack for Fitchburg State, totaling four points with two goals and two assists, while sophomore Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang) rounded out the Falcons scoring with one marker and three dishes.
Swan helped Fitchburg State race out to a 5-0 lead in the first ten minutes of play, netting four of the squad’s five goals and assisting on the other. The Falcons extended that lead to 10-0 on the strength of Swan’s fifth score, and two from Burns, before Chelsey Grabowski (S. Hadley, Mass./S. Hadley) found the back of the net for.
Fitchburg State notched a 14-1 lead at intermission and scored four times in the second period to secure its 18-1 victory. Junior Elizabeth Rubin’s (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) and freshman Samantha Bonasera (Chelsea, Vt./Chelsea) continued the Falcons second-half attack with their first goals of the season, while senior Elise Gallagher (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and sophomore Michelle Lima (Medford, Mass./Medford) wrapped up the Falcons offense with back-to-back scores to close out the game..
Fitchburg State (4-2, 1-0 NEWLA) will be back in action on Thursday as it hosts Nichols College at 4 p.m. Elms (0-5, 0-2 NEWLA) will visit Daniel Webster College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
