Falcons notch 35 points in 2017 MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Coaches Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team was recently picked third overall in the 2017 MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Pre-Season Poll as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bears of Bridgewater State University were selected to win the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse championship in a vote of the league's coaches. The reigning MASCAC Tournament Champions collected five first place votes for a total of 47 points.
Westfield State followed in second with a total of 44 points, including two first place ballots. Fitchburg State was picked to finish third with 35 points, including the remaining first place vote, while Worcester State was next, registering 33 points after being selected fourth.
Sitting in fifth was Framingham State with a total of 25 points, while the Vikings of Salem State were picked sixth after amassing 19 points. Massachusetts Maritime Academy and MCLA rounded out this year's poll in seventh and eighth place with 13 points and eight points respectively.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in the sport of football for the 2013-14 academic year.
