Fitchburg State Ranked Seventh In Pre-Season Coaches Poll

Worcester State slated as MASCAC Pre-Season Champion

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. (August 23, 2011) –  The Fitchburg State women’s soccer team was recently selected seventh in the MASCAC Pre-Season Coaches Poll as selected by the league coaches Tuesday morning.

The Lancers of Worcester State University took home the pre-season pick to win the 2011 MASCAC Women’s Soccer championship after capturing five first place votes and 60 points in the poll. Westfield State finished a close second, totaling 55 points and three first place votes, while defending MASCAC regular season champion, MCLA placed third with 44 points.

Bridgewater State and Salem State followed closely in fourth and fifth place, earning 40 and 32 points, respectively, while Framingham State (26) and Fitchburg State (23) took home sixth and seventh place nods. Mass-Maritime wrapped up the voting, finishing eighth overall with eight points.

Now in its fifth decade of service to eight institutions in the Commonwealth, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.

The Fitchburg State women’s soccer team is set to kick off its 2011 schedule on September 2nd, as it travels to Eastern Connecticut State University for the 2011 ECSU Tournament.
