MASCAC Pre-Season Women’s Soccer Poll Announced

Falcons place seventh overall with 14 points

FITCHBURG, Mass. (August 26, 2014) –The Fitchburg State women's soccer team was recently selected seventh overall with 14 points in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season women's soccer poll.

Westfield State earned six of the eight first place votes to place first overall with 48 points to outdistance second place Worcester State's total of 37 points. Reigning MASCAC tournament champions Bridgewater State finished third with a total of 35 points, including the remaining two first place votes.

Framingham State placed fourth overall with 34 points, while Salem State captured fifth place with a total of 29 points. MCLA landed in sixth with 20 points, while Fitchburg State and Mass-Maritime rounded out the 2014 MASCAC women's soccer poll with 14 points and seven points respectively.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University will join the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.

The Fitchburg State women's soccer team will kick off its 2014 season on Wednesday, September 3rd as it hosts Emmanuel College at 7:00 p.m.
