MASCAC Pre-Season Women’s Soccer Poll Announced

Falcons place sixth overall with 18 points

FITCHBURG, Mass. –The Fitchburg State women's soccer team was recently selected sixth overall with 18 points in the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season women's soccer poll as voted on by the league's coaches.

Worcester State, the reigning MASCAC regular season and post-season tournament champions, earned three of the eight first place votes to place first overall with 45 points to outdistance second place Bridgewater State's total of 43 points, which included four first place ballots.

Westfield State followed in third place with a total of 41 points, including the final first place vote, while Framingham State and Salem State tied for fourth with 27 points each. Fitchburg State was next, placing sixth with 18 points, while MCLA and Massachusetts Maritime rounded out the 2017 MASCAC Women's Soccer Pre-Season Poll in seventh and eighth place with 16 points and seven points respectively.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football in 2013-14.

The Fitchburg State women's soccer team will kick off its 2017 season on Friday, September 1st as it hosts the Wildcats of Bay Path College at Elliot Field for a contest starting at 5:30 p.m.
