How It Happened
Worcester State opened the scoring just five minutes into the contest as sophomore Megan Gurlitz (Auburn, Mass.//Auburn) found the back of the net for her first tally of the season for the 1-0 advantage.
The Lancers double their margin (2-0) at the 13:56 mark when senior Jenna Martin (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) collected a feed from classmate Nikki DiPilla (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and deposited a shot into the right side of the net for her first goal on the year.
Following the break, Fitchburg State knotted the score (2-2) as sophomore midfielder Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass./Millbury) connected on back-to-back scores in the span of 4:29. Mitchell blasted a shot in the back of the net for her sixth score of the 2018 campaign at the 49:44 mark before adding her second goal of the contest minutes later.
Worcester State regained the lead in the 57th minute of play when sophomore Ali Maldonaldo (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett Regional) found the back of the net to make the score 3-2 before the Lancers tacked on a insurance goal at the 62:57 mark by sophomore Maddie Fong (Norton, Mass./Coyle and Cassidy), resulting in the 4-2 final.

This afternoon's contest will mark the 28th meeting between the two team on the pitch with the Falcons currently 3-24-0 when taking on the Lancers.
Worcester State has won the last 11 matchups against Fitchburg State, including a 2-0 decision last season at Elliot Field
Worcester State held a 16-7 advantage in shots, while also finishing with a 5-1 margin in corner kicks.
In between the pipes, sophomore Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass./Nauset Regional) stopped four shots for the Falcons in the setback, while sophomore Ashley Spellman (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Regional) made four saves for the Lancers in the victory.
Mitchell concluded the contest with a team-best four shots for Fitchburg State.
